Prof. Jaroslav Vicar

Dr. Vicar is an Olomouc native (born 1946). He studied analytical chemistry at the Faculty of Science, Palacky University, Olomouc, Czechoslovakia and at the Faculty of Science, Philipps University, Marburg, Germany. He earned his doctoral degree from the Czechoslovak Academy of Science, Prague, in 1973, in the field of organic chemistry.
Since 1974 he has been working at the Institute of Medical Chemistry and Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine in Olomouc where he currently serves as a Deputy Head. He is a member of the Czech Chemical Society. He spent a year (1978) as a Visiting Scientist at the Department of Biochemistry, Center of Nuclear Research, Saclay, France.
His main research areas are: synthesis, characterization and spectroscopic properties of peptides, isolation of biologically active substances from plant material, cytotoxicity and cytoprotectivity of alkaloids and phenolic acids.
Dr. Vicar has been coordinating activities connected with the Faculty’s English Program since 1996.
